BASIC KICKS
1-
Front Snap Kick - Mae Geri - Standing in Seisan stance with left foot forward,
bring the right leg up, with lower leg held against the back of the upper
leg, foot pulled up and back, toes curled. This is called chambering the kick
and must be done with all kicks. Aim the knee at the opponent’s groin or
stomach. Now, snap the lower leg at the target, striking with the ball of the
foot. Upon impact withdraw the lower leg, faster than you threw it out, back to
the chambered position, hold for one second prior to placing the foot on the
deck.
2-
Side
Snap Kick - Keage Geri - Standing in Seisan stance with left foot forward, bring
the right leg up, with leg held against the back of the upper leg, knee aimed to
the right side of your body at a 90 degree angle. The foot
is held up and back, with toes curled up. Aim the knee at the
opponent’s hip or stomach, snap kick, keeping the knee slightly bent at
completion. Upon impact, snap the lower leg back to the chambered position,
pause and replace foot upon the deck.
3-
Front Blade Kick to Knee - From Seisan stance, bring left foot back to the right
knee with the sole of the left foot touching the right knee. Snap the left foot
forward, turning the heel forward, thrusting the outside of the blade of the
left foot into the top of your opponent’s forward knee.
4-
Side Blade Kick to the Knee, Hip or Side - With the left foot forward, bring the
sole of the right foot to the inside of the left knee and horizontal to the
deck. It is important that you have your right knee “laid out”, with the
sole of the right foot against the knee and turned upward. Thrust the right foot
toward the opponent’s knee, hip or side, striking with the back outer edge of
foot, with the heel turned in toward the opponent.
5-
Round House Kick
- Mae Washi Geri - From Seisan stance, quickly step forward and out to
the
right side, with hands on the right hip, with left hand on top of the right.
Your left leg goes into the chambered position, lower leg folded back onto the
back of the upper leg, with the leg horizontal to the ground. Snap kick just as
with the front snap kick with the ball of the foot hitting the opponent in the
solar plexus. Rechamber.
6-
Crescent Kick - From Seisan stance, bring the right foot forward, up and across
the opponent’s body, with the leg curved into a crescent and the foot curved
identically. Strike the opponent’s arm near the elbow with the sole of the
foot. Rechamber and return foot to the ground.
7-
Back Kick - From Seisan stance, left foot forward, spin on ball of the left 180
degrees, while chambering the right foot. With back to opponent, thrust the ball
of the right foot into the solar plexus of the opponent. Rechamber and recover
stance, facing the opponent with guard up.
