The Voice of
Karate
When
first heard, the voice of karate relayed excitement.
As
we later listened, we heard a great attention to detail
Again
we listened and the voice of insight had begun to grow.
Along
the way the words seemed almost to perceive and predict
the
course of events.
In
time, softer words could carry effortlessly to the distant corners
of
a tournament.
Wisdom
now clearly hung on every thought, every syllable.
The
thoughts were written on your mind, as he seemed to speak
only
to you.
Now
the circle of words was complete.
Important
words were forefront and sincere.
Words
like loyalty to your teacher and system.
And
words of thanks, not left unspoken.
Empathy
and understanding became new cornerstones
of
his message.
From
such a strong man the words
Respect
and Affection for his teacher
Came
easily and sincerely without the sting of shame.
May
the memory of Grandmaster Ed McGrath’s words
Echo
for us all,
Forever.
