A Line In The Sand
When George Washington gave his inaugural speech, his very first line contained the word “God” several times. God was also mentioned throughout the rest of his oratory. This was a man of some great wealth and position, who was made the first President of the United States, because, he spent years in the saddle of his horse, in the heat of summer and the freezing cold of Valley Forge in the winter. He led a rag tag group of poorly clothed, essentially untrained militia, who lost battle after battle, against the most powerful army and navy in the civilized world. Yet these troops who fought and died, gave all that they possessed for freedom of speech, freedom to live as they wished and freedom of religion. These men and their families waiting at home were a prayerful populace, who prayed for God’s help and sustenance in every project they undertook. The original Europeans who sowed the seeds of liberty, that became the most powerful, civilized and extraordinarily charitable and empathetic nation, in the history of the world. There was no document that the Patriots of yore, our Founding Fathers, wrote which did not invoke the word and presence of God. Their very base of belief in our countries ability to prosper and protect it’s people, was based upon the principles of Judeo-Christian teaching and moral efficacy.
We went to war and shed our youthful blood, in WW I, WW II and the Korean War, to ensure the freedoms of nations embroiled in war, against dictators, that we were not directly involved in, but despite that, we went willingly. At this moment, we are asking our youths to liberate another people, who lived for generations under the cruelest despot, of this present time. We did this because it was the right thing to do, under the tenets that God gave us, when he established our dominion over earth and breathed into us life and a conscience. After all of the millennia that have passed, since man first stood up straight and made his first decision, good and bad were defined in his mind. Today, the media tell us that we must “get with it,” that morals and ethical dignity have changed because people are different. The only difference fostered in our world, is the various media outlets; TV, movies, magazines and newspapers, who push the envelope on tearing down dignity, pride, religious background, ethics and moral integrity. God is still with the majority of our population, as the polls show, we believe in the existence of God and despite what the pundits tell us, Good and Bad are exactly what they were defined as, when God peopled the earth.
But there are those in this country and around the world, who would deny our God-given right to freedom of religion. When these words were written by our Forefathers, “That there be a Separation of Church and State,” they were certainly not attempting to outlaw religion. The original settlers had come here to escape the suppression of religion and in old Europe, as well as, the African continent we sprang from, communities were under the thumb of religious sects that shared power with the communities’ government. In fact, powerful religious institutions often were connected so powerfully to the people that they could override the elected government. Suppression followed and the serfs or poor people were forced to express faith in the religion that the state empowered. In England, under King Henry VIII, was in power, he rid himself of several wives in his need for a son to carry on his reign. Finally, the Pope of the Catholic Church refused to validate his latest divorce. The King’s answer was to establish his own religion, The Church of England, which prospers to this day. But Henry VIII outlawed a religion, not God. It was not by whim that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights mention God. However, the separation of the Church and the State, was simply, {and I emphasize simply, because if anyone thinks differently (including the Supreme Court), their mind is befuddled with the improper use of their power} meant to keep these two institutions from running the country as a Theocracy. In other words, the government would choose a particular religion and the people would have to live under the tenets and rules of that one religion, with anyone practicing another religion condoned by the government, they would be punished for breaking governmental law or for heresy. That is utter nonsense, we do not have a royal family ruling our country, but instead a Constitutional Republic, which espouses democracy, governs us and our officials are elected or booted out when we feel they are improperly governing. Just ask Tom Daschle, the former Minority Whip in Congress. The point is, that while we have hundreds of religious sects throughout our nation, none of them can ascend to a position of supremacy with the backing of the government. That’s it, period. It does not mean that you can’t practice your religion, speak of your religion, wear a Jewish star or a cross around your neck and despite what the ACLU and groups like them, who would like to see religion forbidden completely, they will never overcome America’s belief in a Supreme Being, our God.
However, the politically correct, with the backing of some Congressional members, are trying to ostracize public religious displays, such as the display of a Menorah, or a Nativity Scene anywhere a government building is located, the word God used in a classroom, as in the Pledge of Allegiance. Christmas Carols are forbidden in school choruses at Christmas time and, taking idiocy to it’s furthest end, children can no longer wish each other a Merry Christmas and they are importuned to say Holiday instead, what holiday do they mean. All of this is in the name of political correctness, since approximately 14% of our population are atheists and the government does not want to embarrass them in any way. Well folks, guess what, we are a democracy and the will of the majority is the law of the land, so, frankly, the atheists can go to Hell, which I’m sure they don’t believe in any way.
The real problem is that the suppression of religious belief and expression, is the tool used by despotic nations like Germany under Hitler, Russia and it’s subdued confederated nations, Iraq under Saddam, where the Baathists held sway, as well as Iran, where the Khomeneists, have determined that leniency that the young people demonstrated for, will not happen, while instead, they are tightening the grip of theocracy and fundamentalism. While it takes a dictatorship to install a State religion, a democracy, at the urging of anti-American organizations such as the ACLU or other organizations of its ilk, have been chipping away at our freedoms, protecting criminals, communists, anarchists or anyone who seem to despise our country. Now they are trying to suppress our freedom of religion and eventually eliminate, what Karl Marx, the prototypical Communist called, “The opiate of the masses.” We cannot allow any more incursions on our freedoms or our rights. It is now time to draw a line in the sand. Chuck Schumer has placed a stigma on any Catholic appointee for a government position, stating that their principles would get in the way of their judgment on good government. Translation, “People of strong religious beliefs, would vote to stop the unbridled slaughter of the innocents, by the millions. America, which has fought and died to protect strangers, require the choice of murdering children, even after they have drawn their first breath. There are many other “choices, such as abstinence, contraceptives, foam sprays, the pill and inserts, all meant and viable to avoid pregnancy. They are not good enough for these willful, self-centered, narcissistic young people who can’t be bothered with the inconvenience of time to be cautious. The result is millions after millions of babies unborn or born, but murdered. Now Christmas and Hanukah are under assault, as well in the name of political correctness. Religion, well practiced will lower crime, as well as friendship amongst people of all descents. Not to draw a line in the sand is cowardice of the worst type. Find out who your Congressmen and Congresswomen are and drop them a note that “We are damned Mad and we won’t put up with it anymore.” God will bless you!
